We are looking for a very special home for our little shih tzu friend, Bugsy. We got him from a shelter after he was found very matted and with major eye infections. They had to shave him completely down in order to get all the mats from his fur. When we picked him up, he was so happy to be out of the shelter and soon made himself right at home with us. He now has grown back his fur and is so adorable and fun! We think he is about 7-8 years old but acts like he is a puppy. He is so lovable and playful and will make a wonderful companion. We are however looking for a family who can afford to give him daily eye medication that costs approximately $30 a month. We help many older dogs or dogs in need of medical care. Please contact us if you are interested in him or would like to contribute to our rescue to help others with medical needs.

Gracie's HEART of Gold attempts to help many dogs who have heartworm or other illnesses or injuries. Due to the amount of emergencies and heartworm positive dogs we have recently had, our extra funds are depleted for this type of thing. Every adoption helps fund more lifesaving medical care and helps pay for the necessary vet bills (i.e. spaying/neutering, heartworm testing, vaccinations, etc.) we have for each animal in our care.
Special thanks to Ella and her family for helping Benny find an amazing home!!! Benny was with us for almost a whole year. He is such a great boy but we hadn't found his perfect match. Ella and her mom saw Benny online but they already had 2 dogs and couldn't adopt him for their own family. So they decided to see what they could do to try to help him find a wonderful home. Ella sent pictures she drew for him, and her mom and family put together a special care package with treats and toys and sent it to him. They also met with him and went with us when we met his new family. We so appreciate the love and prayers they gave to him. Had it not been for this, I believe Benny would still be looking for his forever home. You truly are his and our angels! Thank you so much for loving him so much!!We love you!!
We do not have any puppies at the moment! But that can change in a heartbeat!!

Thanks so much to all the wonderful people who helped us save lives since starting our rescue in 2003. We have found so many wonderful homes for all of our babies during this time. We are hoping to find homes for some of our older and larger dogs also. The puppies always go so quickly and the older ones need special homes too. Please take a look at some of these who have been with us for a long time and consider making them a part of your family.
We are a very small rescue group currently working on getting a non-profit status. We rescue animals, primarily from the local shelter, as often as possible. The President and Co-Founder of Gracie's H.E.A.R.T. of Gold, Kim Lane May, is also the Board President of the local humane society. At this point, all of the animals rescued through us come from this shelter based on the extreme overcrowding that continues to go on there. We are so passionate about saving as many lives as we can and appreciate all of the interest in the animals we rescue. We get extremely attached to all the "babies" we rescue and therefore may seem a bit stringent on our policies. We truly are in this to find the perfect fit and the best possible home for each animal we rescue. We often find numerous wonderful families for each animal and do our best to continue to find an animal suited for each family who expresses a desire to give one of our babies a forever home. We love to keep in touch and get wonderful updates from our adoptive families and try to visit when we can, so we can see "our babies". We have met so many wonderful and absolutely unbelievable families since 2003 when we first started doing this. So many friendships have been formed based on our mutual bond and love for the animal adopted. For each is a blessing not only for the animals, but for us. While we miss each and every animal we have adopted out, we know in our hearts they are in the best possible place they could ever be...and for that we are grateful. Thanks to all who have taken into your hearts and your homes one of our own and made them one of your own....You are our angels. You are our heros.
We will send out adoption applications for any party interested in adopting from us. We will screen each applicant and base our final decision on this information provided and also do a home visit. We reserve the right to refuse adoption to any applicant for any reason. We do adopt out of state but do not ever "ship" our animals as we require a face to face meeting in order to confirm the match is the best for the animal and family. Our adoption fees average $150-250 for adults and pups. This is due to the rising costs of veterinary care, gasoline prices, and boarding fees which are paid for out of our own pockets. As we are not funded by anyone - adoption donations help to offset only a part of our cost of getting the dog ready for adoption. All dogs > 6months are vetted, up to date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, wormed and have a goody starter bag. Puppies < 6 months will have at least 2 puppy vaccinations, microchipped, wormed, and goody starter bag. If age appropriate, will potentially also be spayed/neutered and have rabies vaccination also. You will be required to provide proof of spaying/neutering after adoption along with a rabies vaccination, if necessary. Kittens and Cats are typically $35-75 based on the vet care. If mature enough all will be spayed/neutered.
